Jackson Cherfils came to the U.S. in 2024 with big hopes and dreams of bringing his athletic talents to Metro Atlanta, GA as soon as he arrived. A top selected player from Haiti's Under 14 - National Team in Port Au Prince, Jackson knew that he could contribute to the soccer team at his new school - the Campbell High School Spartans in Smyrna, GA. He waited patiently, practiced hard and kept up with his studies hoping to hear back from the GHSA - (Georgia High School Association) to see if he would be eligible to join the team. When he was finally cleared to play, his coaches and teammates were excited to add Jackson to their roster. Jackson quickly became a standout player, he was assigned the Defensive Midfield position and soon earned the title of Team Captain.
Jackson's story begins in Haiti where he and his family members fled from to find better opportunities in the U.S. While playing for the Under 14-National Team in Port Au Prince, the risk and dangers for young athletes are overwhelming. The city remains in turmoil making it difficult for him and his teammates to practice and play safely amid the unstable conditions in the capital city. When an opportunity to resettle with family in Cobb County, GA became possible, they took advantage of it and found their way to Smyrna, GA, a bustling suburb of Atlanta. Now safe in the U.S., Jackson and his family are hoping that he can continue to work towards his success as a soccer star at Campbell High School while excelling academically and contributing positively in his new community.
With Haiti's Grenadiers Professional Men's Soccer Team coming to GA to compete in this year's FIFA World Cup, soccer is on the mind of many Georgia Haitians. Let's keep Jackson Cherfils in our hearts and minds too as we cheer on the national team this summer.
This year with Cherfils on their squad, the Campbell High School Spartans Soccer team had a 12-3 overall record and won the Region 3 Championship with a perfect record of 7-0. Jackson Cherfils continues to add to his team's domination on the field and their leadership in their community. This amazing young Haitian athlete was featured in the Cobb County School Districts K-12 website telling his story of coming from Haiti and rising to a team captain in a U.S. High School.
