Game Changer - Interview with Johnson Sainvil of Domono
March 2024 | By Analise Marcel & lorna valcin
Johnson Sainvil, a Haitian American entrepreneur of “Domono,” a wearable camera case, is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Recently interviewed by the Haitian Times and now Lakol Magazine. This interview captures Johnson’s most recent views about his Domono invention debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. We are excited to share his responses and point of view from the interview.
Lakol: How did you come up with the name Domono for your invention?
Sainvil: It was called “My POV,” standing for point of view. However, when googling that phrase, some inappropriate sites came up. So, one of my team members suggested Domono. The unique spelling sometimes generates the “o” as dots. Therefore, depicting a connection from one to the next— like points of view. I liked the idea, and it was renamed Domono. Of course, “My Domono” personalizes and clarifies the angle, but calling it Domono is fine as well.
Lakol: What inspired you to invent Domono?
Sainvil: Truthfully speaking, multiple reasons fueled by frustration and disappointment with my limited phone capabilities at the time. The need for two devices for audio and video. News media exposing many minority deaths from law enforcement situations. I thought to myself, point of view matters! My research revealed there was not a patent for what I had in mind. Ideas started whirling in my head.

Lakol: What are some key features with Domono?
Sainvil: Well, the pixel resolution is quite impressive, serves as a monitor by capturing two different angles/viewpoints, dual features and optimal range. The Domono is not simply an accessory; it is a necessity for the unexpected or opportunities.
Lakol: Do you consider Domono easily accessible and user friendly?
Sainvil: Absolutely! Once someone purchases a Domono, they become part of the Domono family. We focused on the Domono being simple and direct which equals user friendly. As a matter of fact, I believe in the acronym K-I-S-S method. This means “keep-it-simple-stupid.” Another words, this was made for the average person to use without complicating matters. Technology tends to intimidate many people. However, that is not my intention with Domono.
Lakol: In a recent interview with the Haitian Times, you described Domono as not only being the new face of technology, but a device to help black people handle dangerous situations. Would you like to expand on that statement?
Sainvil: Anybody can benefit from Domono, for whatever reason. It’s like a recovered black box from a plane. Domono can bring clarity and transparency from compromised situations. This device can be useful as a deterrent for children, women and elderly. When people become more familiar with its capabilities, Domono will be known as providing safety and security for this diverse population amongst other uses.
Lakol: There is no doubt Domono’s capabilities can impact education, entertainment, law enforcement, medical and scientific arenas. How does that make you feel to contribute so broadly?
Sainvil: I feel numb. I’m in “Go mode.” Still, there are so many hurdles to jump. I stay ready. I keep pushing. I’m the first minority to develop something like this, that’s something. I’m going to keep up with changes and improvements.

Lakol: As with much technology, this is “the latest and the greatest” so to speak. Some have predicted you to be a millionaire. How do you feel about that category?
Sainvil: I’m a strong believer in God. So, I aim for higher- billionaire! I’m not simply here to entertain. This is regulated by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). I want to help others succeed and develop their dreams as well.
Lakol: How long did it take you to complete the Domono invention? What obstacles did you overcome?
Sainvil: It took me 5 years. It’s still a prototype. It's 90% complete. My biggest challenges were my own insecurities. I’m more confident now that it is almost complete. Progress doesn’t take breaks! Funding remains a challenge. However, I believe Domono will be completed soon.
Lakol: I understand you hold a master's degree in business administration. However, Domono stands in the field of engineering and technology. Yet, you developed a savvy device. Would you consider yourself a “techy” now?
Sainvil: Yes! I have my special pair glasses to look the role as well (laughing). Technology is a very lucrative field. Careers with physical demands tend to diminish much quicker than mentally demanding careers. I plan on using and developing what my brain has to offer the world. It’s all about supply and demand now.
Lakol: Do you have any tech ideas for the future?
Sainvil: Yes. I have some, but I need to fully develop this one.
Lakol: How did it feel demonstrating the multiple capabilities of Domono at the infamous CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas earlier this month?
Sainvil: Great! It took some time to take it all in. Domono was one of two minority companies at the show. It was a proud moment. Most companies were Asian. People thanked us for being so pleasant and personable. There were many companies and countries interested in Domono upon completion. Walmart, Target, Nigeria and Australia to name a few. The prototype captured and intrigued many people. That's our goal- to complete the Domono.out his unique invention, Domono!
Lakol: Are there any opportunities for the public to invest and partner with Domono?
Sainvil: Yes. Shares will be available to the public for purchase in February. Anyone can access the information at MyDomono.com. We also post information about Domino on social media as well. .
